Each individual telescope will have a mirror 27 feet (8.2 meters) in diameter but only 7 inches (18 centimeters) thick. When all four telescopes are focused on the same object, they will have the light-gathering power of a single telescope with a mirror 52 feet (16 meters) in diameter. </P>
